This morning I was travelling back home. And it felt so good. So right.
And then came thoughts about my mother waiting at the bus stop along with dad to pick me up and take me home and shower me with their love. It's the best damn thing that can happen to you, after a series of unlucky, sad, University of Delhi exams (lol).
And as I got down the bus, there they were, waiting right there, just as I had expected. But not for too long.
So we got back home, had breakfast, had a light conversation before dad actually got straight to the point.
" What have you planned for your future? "
" Er, I am hungry, can I get some sugar? "
"Nopes, answer me, Babulal can get that"
"Alright, I want to continue with master's"
"Look I know you're a kid and you are still too young to decide. Maybe you should take up a technical degree instead. What will you do with master's? IAS?"
"Dont stop me from doing what I want dad, you have seen how geography has brought me insane happiness, I dont want to regret master's as well"
"I dont remember forcing you for geography"
"Nopes you didnt, you just didnt want me to take english honors"
"Well, the sound of the subject, isnt very appealing to me"
(sipping milk wondering why mum vanished when I needed her the most)
"You have seen people in the extended family, your cousin got divorced. Being too career oriented blindens you sometimes"
" Yes well her parents took the wrong decision because they couldnt satisfy their ego otherwise. (hoping you would understand I dont want you to make the wrong choice with me)"
"You want to die in a small flat surrounded by money without a child or a husband?"
"I never mentioned anything about marriage, ofcourse it has to come at some point of time. Its just that its not an end in itself. When I choose a master, I'd choose it for a long term goal. Marriage will come when the age and the situation is right"
" I am worried about you Uma beta, I really am"
"I am worried about a possibly wrong decision you might want to make for me too, dad. But I am not going to let it happen. I don't to be an abhila nari. Because I want to walk shoulder to shoulder with the guy I would marry some day, and thats not happening if you continue with this."
"I am worried too dad, but for now, I just came back home. Bye. Shower time"
And that's just about the conversation we had. Rather disturbing to have felt. But well, life moves on. It's just the starting of my summer vacations, I am sure he has more to talk about.
